Your body is great when you take care of it. Your immune system needs your help daily. Here are additional ways to help your body perform at its best in regards to immune system strength.
Exercise is a great way to improve your immune system. It can also reduce stress and make you less likely to get osteoporosis, heart disease, and certain types of cancer. A good amount is 30 minutes a day. The level of intensity can vary from a bike ride, walking, jogging. swimming, hiking, resistance training, and golf.
Clean your hands consistently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If you don't have access to soap and water, use a hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. This will help your body to not get infected and cause your immune system to work overtime.
Make sure you are getting adequate sleep. Adults need 7-9 hours of sleep. As you are sleeping your body will fight off illness. To get better sleep, you need to stick to a regular bedtime schedule, stay active during the day, skip caffeine and alcohol near bedtime. Lower your bedroom temperature, and give yourself time to unwind at the end of the day.
Reduce your alcohol intake. No more than 2 drinks for men and 1 drink for women each day. Stay away from nicotine and second hand smoke.
Make sure you are drinking enough water. 8 - 8oz glasses per day is a minimal amount and you increase based on your size and activity level. It is hard to overconsume water.
