Taking Care of Our Temple
It’s easy to treat our bodies like tools—something we use until we’re tired, sick, or burned out. But faith calls us to see our bodies as a gift from God and a responsibility we steward. The Bible teaches that our bodies are a “temple” and that how we live—including how we care for our health—can honor the Lord.
“Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?” (1 Corinthians 3:16, KJV)
1) Your Body Belongs to God
Our bodies are not ultimately our own. That truth changes the “why” behind healthy habits. We’re not pursuing health for vanity—we’re honoring the One who gave us life.
“What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?” (1 Corinthians 6:19, KJV)
“For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.” (1 Corinthians 6:20, KJV)
2) Stewardship Is Worship
God calls us to be faithful with what He entrusts to us. That includes our time, our energy, and our physical health. Stewardship is spiritual.
“Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.” (1 Corinthians 4:2, KJV)
“Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.” (1 Corinthians 10:31, KJV)
3) Discipline Matters
Discipline isn’t about earning God’s love—it’s about living wisely and staying ready for what God calls us to do. Healthy routines can strengthen self-control and consistency in every area of life.
“But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection…” (1 Corinthians 9:27, KJV)
“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” (2 Timothy 1:7, KJV)
4) Rest Is Biblical
Rest isn’t weakness. It’s part of God’s design. When we refuse to rest, we often end up running on empty—physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
“Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while…” (Mark 6:31, KJV)
“It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late… for so he giveth his beloved sleep.” (Psalm 127:2, KJV)
5) Strength Has a Purpose
God strengthens us so we can serve, endure, and show up for our families and communities. Caring for your body supports your calling.
“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” (Philippians 4:13, KJV)
“And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men.” (Colossians 3:23, KJV)

- Pray for consistency and wisdom with habits
Based on what I've shared with you today, take a look at your life and see where there is room for improvement. We know perfection in this body is a challenge because we know that as long as we're in this body there is a potential for us to sin. The more we know the greater the opportunity for us to make better decisions. I am sharing this to help you take back control over your life in the areas of stewarding your body.
Parents, your children are watching your steps. If one parent has obesity, a child has roughly a 50% likelihood of also developing obesity. If both parents have obesity, this jumps to roughly 80%. (USCF Benioff Chidrens Hospital, Healio) Even your own siblings are watching your steps. Your coworkers will notice something about you and even strangers that see you in public will see something either similar. The better they see you perform the greater the opportunity for them to make changes.
As Christians we are called to be examples of light not just to other Christians but to non-Christians . For those who don't believe in Christ they will see something different within you. The way you look, the way you carry yourself, the foods and drinks that you consume tell a message for those that are paying attention.
If you're doing an excellent job in this area, may God continue to bless you. If you're not so well in this area, may God continue to bless you as you now commit to making better choices. These are lessons that I learned in my life. I've been burnt out, I've been sick, had near-death experiences that were brought on because of my poor decision making. I have suffered at my own hand because I chose to not steward my body appropriately. This gives me the ability to coach others because of my experience. I walk the walk, and I've talked the talk. I've been up and I've been down. It’s by God's grace and mercy that I am still up today.
You have the ability to totally transform your stewardship of your life the moment you declare you will. Pray to God to help . If you don't have your own personal relationship with God, that would be the ultimate step. Establish your relationship and watch God transform your life. To establish your own personal relationship with God, all you have to do is repent of your sins, ask God to be your Lord and Savior, and walk away from the things that you know are not pleasing to God. Read your Bible and surround yourself with other believers that are strong in Christ.
Iron Sharpens Iron, which is part of my company belief. I also believe that champions are built. I'm not saying that the road is going to be easy, however, it is well worth it .
Taking care of your temple is not about perfection—it’s about purpose. Start small, stay consistent, and let your habits be a way of honoring God.
“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.” (Galatians 6:9, KJV)
