Thank God it's Friday!

Welcome to the weekend! Everyday is blessing so let us give thanks. As we do head into the weekend, what are your plans?

This week I shared the beginning parts of a series dealing with discipline. I am sure in various parts of your life you have strengths and perhaps in other parts a weakness or two. The focus should be on taking the necessary steps no matter how small to improve upon your weakness. For many years I was weak in the area of nutrition because I indulged in too many salty, crunchy items. I loved to eat tortilla chips and salsa to the point of over consuming and eating a large party size bag alone. This was a huge amount of sodium and calories that was bringing into my body. I was frustrated that I was not losing body fat and getting more lean and ripped as I desired. I was working out intensely, yet not seeing the results that I was looking for in the mirror and on the scale.

What changed? The area of strength was my workout routine. The area of weakness was my nutrition. I had to first acknowledge that the chips were causing more harm than good. I had to look at the amount of consumption and realize that I was addicted to it. Once I faced that fact, I then put together an action plan to decrease the amount of chips so that I could still enjoy them with moderation.

My plan:

  1. Find chips that are low sodium

  2. Find salsa that is low sodium

  3. Read the nutrition label to find proper serving size

  4. Drink 8 oz of water before eating to give me a sense of fullness

  5. Decrease the availability to them by buying a small bag

  6. Placing them in a harder to reach area

  7. Remind myself that small serving is enough

  8. Savor eat bite

When it comes to discipline make sure you break down whatever it is that you want to do into manageable steps that you can take action immediately. Hold yourself accountable and if needed have a partner help. Pick a person that will be honest and unbiased to hold you accountable. Put together a chart to track your success and have a reward built in as you complete the actions.

Have a fantastic Friday and a wonderful Labor Day Weekend!
