Greetings! We are in a new week full of opportunities in these last few days of July. Your health is your wealth is a statement I constantly read. I believe this is true because once your health is gone your activities of daily living become extremely difficult to handle. Today is a great day to revisit ways to take care of your health. Let's look at ways to do this.

A big component to assist you in having better health is to drop weight. Nearly 70% of Americans are overweight or obese. Being overweight increases your chances of several types of cancer including pancreas, colon, esophageal, kidney, and thyroid. The American Institute for Cancer Research recommends no more than 18 ounces of meats like bacon, hot dogs, and lunchmeat. They have been linked to a higher risk of colon and stomach cancers. Make sure since it is hot that you wear sunscreen. Ultraviolet radiation can cause skin cancer. Most cases are curable if they are found and treated early. They can be life threatening if they spread to other body parts. Load up on veggies and fruits. Have at least 2.5 cups per day. They help prevent damage that may lead to throat, windpipe, and mouth cancers. Make sure you have your menu loaded with healthy veggies, fruits, and whole grains. Nutritional supplements don't give you the same benefits as whole foods and they can throw off the balance of other nutrients in your body. Watching you sugar intake is a huge part of keeping your weight in a normal range. Food or drinks with a lot of sugar tend to have more calories per ounce. Extra calories that you do not burn off lead to weight gain. Human papilloma virus HPV is often passed from person to person through sex. It can live in your body for years and you might not notice. It's the cause of nearly all cervical cancer of the vagina, penis, anus, mouth, and throat. Girls can get the vaccine between the ages of 9 and 26 while body from 9 to 21. Using condoms or abstaining can lower you chances of getting HPV. Get moving. People who exercise are less likely to get cancer of the colon, breast, or uterus. Moving your body uses more energy, helps food digest for faster, and prevents the build up of some hormones that are linked to cancer. Put down the fire stick. Did you know? Smoking cigarettes can cause heart and lunge disease. Tobacco is still the number 1 cause of preventable death in the us. Reduce your drinking of alcohol because it can damage your liver, lead to stomach, colon, throat, and breast cancer. Men should focus on 2 drinks a day and women 1 drink a day.

Based on my research, nothing on this list is that hard to do. If you are not doing some of these things really consider how they will hep you increase your chances of not getting cancer. By: James Henderson Reference: Lower Your Risk of Cancer, WebMD
