How are you feeling today? I hope you are doing well and have started your day with a quality breakfast. Tuesday is a great day to move your body. Did you know?

Sedentary lifestyle is a medical term used to describe a lifestyle with little or no physical activity. It is characterized by sitting, reading, watching television or using the computer for much of the day, with little or no vigorous physical exercise.

Approximately 50% of America's youth aged 12-21 are not regularly physically active. In addition, physical activity declines during adolescence. The American Heart Association says that people that are physically inactive have between 1.5 and 2.4 times the risk for developing coronary heart disease, compared to that observed for high blood cholesterol, high blood pressure or cigarette smoking. Non physically active lifestyle increases the risk of developing diabetes, hypertension, colon cancer, depression and anxiety, obesity, and weak muscles and bones. Nationally in 2000, according to the CDC, 78% of the population was at risk for health problems related to lack of exercise that is regular and sustained physical activity.

Physical inactivity affects at least 20 of the most deadly chronic disorders and physically active people outlive those who are inactive.

Wow! Those are very informative detail about a sedentary lifestyle. I am not surprised that in 2018 we have an epidemic in adults and children that deals with health. We are seeing more cases of diabetes, and obesity than ever before. We have access to so many things now that we really do not have to move. Our cell phones can turn on the TV, the lights, start our cars, and view our security cameras to name a few. Really, why do we even have to get up? Our food can be delivered via an app on our phones. Kids are not playing outside as much because it is easier to have a phone or IPad to watch a movie and/or a game console to compete with a friend or family member. As I am sitting here typing this, I have to remember to sit up straight, keep my core tight, and get up every so often to move my body. I could see how if I was not health conscious how it would be easy to just sit and type for hours.

You only have 1 body and 1 life to live on this earth. Make sure you are physically active and help those around you.
