Wow! We are over 2 weeks completed in the first month of 2018. This is such an exciting time of the year. Why? It is exciting because you are working towards the goals you set. Everyday is an opportunity to move one step closer to your goals. Last week, if it did not go your way was simply a learning experience on what did and did not work towards your goals.

Key Steps For Your Success!

A. Focus on commitment, not motivation.

Think about this, how committed are you to your goals? How important are they to you, and what are you willing to sacrifice in order to achieve them? If you find yourself fully committed, motivation will follow.

B. Seek knowledge, not results.

If you focus on the excitement of the journey which includes discovery, improving, exploring and experimenting, your motivation will always be fueled. If you focus only on results, your motivation will be like weather—it will die the moment you hit a storm. So the key is to focus on the journey, not the destination. Focus on what you are learning along the way and what you can improve.

C. Make the journey exciting and fun.

The moment you make the journey serious, there’s a big chance it will start carrying a heavy emotional weight and you will lose perspective and become stuck again.

D. Get rid of immobilizing thoughts.

Thoughts influence feelings and feelings determine how you view your work. You have a lot of thoughts in your head, and you always have a choice of which ones to focus on. You can focus on the fears, doubts, and failures or the thoughts of stepping out of your comfort zone, experimenting, and being successful.

E. Use your imagination.

When things go well, you are full of positive energy, and when you are experiencing difficulties, you need to be even more energetic. So rename your situation. If you keep repeating I hate my work, I hate my income, or I hate my life, guess which feelings those words will evoke? You can always find something to learn even from the worst situation in your life. Do this for three days. Think and say positive things only. See what happens.

F. Stop being easy on yourself.

Motivation means action and action brings results. Sometimes your actions fail to bring the results you want and you prefer to be easy on yourself. You avoid difficult situations, you wait for the perfect timing, for an opportunity, while you drive yourself into stagnation and sometimes even into depression. Get out there and challenge yourself to do something that you want to do even if you are afraid.

G. Get rid of distractions.

Distractions will always be in your way, especially those easy, usual things you would rather do instead of focusing on new challenging and meaningful projects. Learn to focus on the most important parts of your journey. Write a list of time wasters and hold yourself accountable to not do them.

H. Rely on yourself, not others.

You should never expect others to do the tasks for you. Not even your partner, friend or boss because they are all busy with their own needs. No one will make you happy or achieve your goals for you. That part is all on you.

I. Plan.

Know your steps which are when, what, and how. Fill out your weekly calendar, notingwhen you will do what and how. When, what, and how are very important and make sure you review how each day went by what you learned. Revise what you could improve and implement it.

J. Protect yourself from burnout.

It’s easy to burn out when you are very motivated. Observe yourself to recognize any signs of tiredness and take time to rest. Your body and mind rest when you schedule relaxation and fun time into your weekly calendar. There are ways to factor this in. Switch locations, meditate, close your eyes and focus on one thing for a few minutes. If you must be in a seated position for long periods, take time to stretch

your body. If you are creating something in your creative mode, switch to something logical for short period, then return to creative mode.

Life will always have its ups and downs. Just make sure that you do not stay down too long. Even the biggest stars, richest businesspeople or the most accomplished athletes get lost sometimes. What makes them motivated is the curiosity about how much better, faster, wealthier, smarter, helpful, or prestigious they can become. This curiosity will lead you to your goals and success.
